WHAT TO DO WHILE YOU WAIT FOR GOD

The Christian life would be easy if the space in time was small between when you first believe God's promises and when you receive what He promised. If you could read about it one day and get it the next, Wow—wouldn't that be great!?

But life's not like that.

The hard part is in the waiting between God's promise and His answer; and even harder, when the waiting comes with uncertainties.

Where's this going? Where am I going to end up? What's my future look like? The reality is, we just don't know how circumstances will play out and it's this not-knowing that crushes us. We doubt because we don't know. We worry and despair because we don't know. We falter and sometimes fail—all because we don't know. If only we knew how this trial was going to end, we would be okay. But we don't.

We all have areas of uncertainty where we need to hold tightly onto what God has said while we wait for Him to work. I couldn't go forward another day if I didn't believe what He told me. So here's what we each must do: You must review His promises all the time. You must remind yourself that your faith is in God and not in what He does for you. He knows what He has promised, He can't lie, and He can't forget. He will deliver on time, all the time. Who else can make promises like that?

God knows that it's hard for us to walk by faith. So He assures us, I'm not going to leave you wondering what I'm going to do. I don't want you to be overcome by fear. So I'm going to make some promises to you so that you can get through the difficult days. You don't have to take your view of life only from what you can see happening right in front of you. You're not imprisoned by the crazy talk someone is putting into your head that you know isn't true. Hang onto the things that I told you.

And while we wait, God builds our faith.

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5

5TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING & DINNER

5th Annual Golf Outing

On June 15th 2009 MSF had its 5th Annual Golf Outing, Auction and Dinner.  It was quite a blessing for us to see how many people came out to support the foundation.  The day started off with a shotgun start of 80 golfers teeing off.  Former Chicago Bear, Glen Kozlowski, came out to support us by spending time with each of the foursomes out on the course.  Although rain had plagued the week before, Monday turned out to be a perfect day for the course! After golf finished up our silent auction began with 303 items to be auction off.  After serving 200 for dinner, MC Bob Arosen started the live auction.  Once again Bob didn't disappoint his audience as many laughs were shared as he auctioned off 10 items.  This year MSF hosted live entertainment by "Splat Experience."  Choreographed to music an artist, using only his bare hands, painted an 8 x 8 portrait of Jesus in approximately five minutes.  The artist held the room's attention as he layered his painting and his image took shape. The evening ended with Pastor James MacDonald from Harvest Bible Chapel reminding us once again the true meaning of salvation.

MSF is pleased to announce total revenue from our sponsors, golfers, silent and live auctions raised over $55,000.00!  Every penny raised this day will go directly to fund our projects.  Because of individuals like you, we are able to continue to support Mitch's foundation and our many projects.

We would like to thank our Corporate Sponsors, Hole Sponsors, volunteers and guests for making this day a success!

2009 SUMMIT CLIMB: MT. BAKER, WASHINGTON

2009 Summit Climb: Mt. Baker Washington

On July 18th eight individuals will be climbing Mount Baker in Washington for MSC.  The purpose of this climb is to raise money to help MSC fund current projects.  To date we have raised $4,100 of our $20,000 goal.   Mount Baker is a glacier with an 8,000 vertical and will require two days to summit and will prove to be quite a challenging climb.  Each climber has a short bio about themselves and how they knew Mitch.  If you are interested in knowing more about this climb or sponsoring one of the following climbers please click on the following.

Let's cheer these climbers on as they continue to train and get mentally prepared for this summit!

The Torch Award

The Mitchell Swback Charities honors the 2009 recipients of the "Torch Award" for the 2009 school year. The "Torch Award" was established by MSC and The Harvest Christian Academy honors one female and one male student each school year with a full tuition scholarship to Harvest Christian Academy. The award symbolizes an Olympic runner running with the torch giving light to all with whom he or she comes in contact.

We're pleased to announce the 2009 recipients of the "Torch Award" are:

Emma Patchak and Kody McCormick

Letter From Emma Patchak

Thank you so much for selecting me as a Torch Award scholarship recipient.  Being awarded this scholarship was truly an answer to prayers for both me and my family.  I am honored to be one of the two recipients chosen to carry the torch and I look forward to holding up Mitch’s Spirit and Legacy throughout the 09/10 school year.   I pray that God will provide me the grace to hold the torch high, to be a good example to others and to live my life in a way that best represents my Lord and Savior.

On a practical level for my everyday life, this scholarship has provided me added motivation to strive for excellence as Mitch did throughout his life!  I am glad to have the opportunity to continue my education at HCA, where the teachers and staff do a good job of integrating Christ into every subject.  This is especially true on the playing field, where the coaches have taught us how to bring Christ onto the field through both prayer and attitude. I look forward to a winning basketball and soccer season and I can’t wait to see how God will continue using us to fulfill His purpose here.

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the things for which I sent it.”

Thank You again for this wonderful gift!

In His Hands,
Emma Patchak

Letter From KODY MCCORMICK

Receiving the torch award this year was an amazing blessing to my family and I. It means so much to me to be honored with such an award. I feel compelled to make known to others what was so great about Mitch and I will try my hardest to reflect Godly character in all that I put my hands to. Recently I have been reminded of how fragile life is as I almost lost one of my closest friends to a parasailing incident. It's hard for me to keep quiet about how important the Lord is to me and how vital it is for others to come to know him.

I am thankful to the Swaback family for finding strength through their severe loss and pain to establish this foundation. No recipient, including myself, will come close to filling Mitch's shoes. I can only hope I steward this privilege to further the cause of Christ. Thanks for the opportunity and generosity shown to me.

Kody McCormick

Mitch's Journal

Monday 3/22/2004

Today God taught me He isn't trying to make me perfect so we can be a trophy for Him. He knows we will never be perfect. He puts us in a place where He can work through us. If we can do that and put our faith in Him, that is all that He wants.

Mitch spent the last few months of his life not only living his life for the Lord but putting his thoughts in his journal everyday. How do we want to live our lives? Why don't we all try something radical today for the Lord!

THE MITCHELL SWABACK FOUNDATION IS MAKING A CHANGE!

Mitchell Swaback Charities

We will be changing our name from "The Mitchell Swaback Foundation" to Mitchell Swaback Charities." This change is necessary as we switch from a private foundation to a public charity. When this is complete, we'll have many more options on how we can run this organization. This change will allow us to continue to grow in a way that will increase the amount of lives we can impact.

In addition to the name change, we will be creating a new website and logo (pictured on the left).

Please feel free to call Bob Swaback if you have any questions at 602.763.0590 or email rswaback@msfcares.org
